USPS Mail Delivery
Directly To Your Door!
I was recently speaking with a friend in Texas, whom I’d forgotten to share my “falling at the mailbox /breaking 2 ribs/one-month hospital stay & now I’m no longer allowed to get the mail; so the task is left to my partner” story; and…
When I finished with this lovely tale of woe, she enlightened me with news of a solution provided by the postal service...
If you’re disabled in any way and cannot get to your mailbox, a 3rd party will deliver your mail directly to your door - at no cost!
It’s called USPS Hardship Delivery:
”It’s a temporary change in the way your mail is delivered, allowing for door delivery, instead of the usual curb or centralized mailbox collection, due to a qualifying physical hardship.”
How do I request it?
Complete PS Form1528
Include supporting documentation:
“Include a doctor’s statement confirming your inability to collect mail from a curb or centralized mailbox due to a qualifying physical hardship.”
Submit to your local post office by hand, or mail to the post office that delivers your mail:
POSTMASTER, UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE
YOUR CITY, STATE & ZIP CODE
What constitutes a hardship?
It must be a physical challenge that makes it difficult or impossible to retrieve mail from a curb or centralized mailbox.
Is approval temporary or permanent? Temporary.
It must be renewed annually.
